Love One Another-- 14 Day Challenge

Today, Lisa gave a wonderful lesson on "Charity Never Faileth", a talk given by President Thomas S. Monson in the October 2010 General Conference. (click HERE to read the talk).  This talk is excellent, and I encourage you all to read it!  At the beginning of the talk, President Monson tells this story:

"A young couple, Lisa and John, moved into a new neighborhood. One morning while they were eating breakfast, Lisa looked out the window and watched her next-door neighbor hanging out her wash.

“That laundry’s not clean!” Lisa exclaimed. “Our neighbor doesn’t know how to get clothes clean!”

John looked on but remained silent.

Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, Lisa would make the same comments.

A few weeks later Lisa was surprised to glance out her window and see a nice, clean wash hanging in her neighbor’s yard. She said to her husband, “Look, John—she’s finally learned how to wash correctly! I wonder how she did it.”

John replied, “Well, dear, I have the answer for you. You’ll be interested to know that I got up early this morning and washed our windows!”

President Monson then asks, "Are we looking through a window which needs cleaning? Are we making judgments when we don’t have all the facts? What do we see when we look at others? What judgments do we make about them?"  Later in the talk this quote is given:  "If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”

As part of her lesson, Lisa gave us a 14 day challenge. You can see this challenge below.

Love is in the air. Well, maybe not for you. But it could be.
With the appearance of heart-shaped boxes of chocolates, cupid candies, valentine cards, and lovey-dovey stuffed animals on store shelves across America, it’s clear that in the United States, there is a definite commercialization of love during the month of February.
But love isn’t confined to a month. Love is not dependent on relationship status. In fact, it’s not about one day. It’s about every day.
In the words of our loving prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, “Love is the very essence of the gospel, and Jesus Christ is our Exemplar.”
If we want to be better followers of Him, we need to be more. We need to LOVE more.
To focus on the essence of the gospel and ensure that “love is the air,” we invite you to participate in our 14-day challenge to love one another.
Each day, pick one of these actions to do in order to show love to someone else.
Like it says in the New Testament and is reiterated in the popular hymn “Love One Another,” “by this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
By our actions, we can truly put love in the air. Take the 14-day Love One Another Challenge and make a difference in the world around you.
